If We Were Having Coffee

I read this really fun blog about what we might tell one another over coffee. The daydreams began. I started imagining all the things I would tell all of you over a cup of coffee.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m obsessed with wearing my Jawbone and tracking how many steps I’ve taken each day. But my favorite part is that it compares sound sleep to light sleep. Incredible! Despite my love of the data (and I so love the data), this hasn’t yet transpired into my actually taking more steps. Maybe one day soon?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I purchased Vogue just because Kim and Kanye were on the cover.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m really looking forward to an upcoming work trip to D.C., because I will have time for the spy museum. Television and movies coming to life?! Or so I imagine?! Ah-mazing!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m giddily happy that it’s officially warm enough to declare it frozen yogurt season. Froyo, for the win.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I find it really comforting to write blogs in WordPress.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m planning a trip to the top of the Empire State Building. It’s time to take that off the New York City bucket list.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m still shopping for sconces to read in bed. Though, this one has caught my eye and may just be the official winner.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I really want to read Judy Greer’s new book.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that this is the next craft I make. I’m going to use the phrase “Relax Your Heart.”

If we were having coffee, I would ask all about you!

And you? What would you tell me over coffee?

Until next time!

2014 Spring Must List

Hello hello!

I’m back from my hiatus (read all about that here) with one of my favorite columns! It’s time for the Spring Must List! A collaboration between Allyssa Barnes and Likes to Smile.

This is the post where we list 5 Spring Musts on my blog and 5 different Spring Musts on Allyssa’s blog. Speaking of which… have we all geeked out over her updated blog enough yet?! Totally gorgeous. Totally filled with usable tips. It is so amazingly Allyssa. I kvell. Go check it out. But first….

2014 Spring Must List

(Image)

Read 5 of our 10 Spring Musts:

1. MUST READ:

Allyssa: The Happiness Project. It’s been on my to-read list for awhile now, but Spring just feels like the perfect time to finally sit down and read it.

Stacey: The One and Only. Emily Giffin’s newest book officially hits store shelves on May 20th. I’ve already pre-ordered it. Guaranteed to be a Likes to Smile Book Club pick. What’s your favorite Emily Giffin book?

2. MUST SEE MOVIE:

Allyssa: Divergent! I absolutely loved the book so I’m so excited to see it on the big screen!

Stacey: The Other Woman. Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann?! I’ll buy the movie ticket for the cast alone.

3. MUST TRAVEL TO:

Allyssa: Anywhere! I don’t travel often so at this point, I’ll take what I can get!

Stacey: My dream vacation always consists of bathing suit weather and the ability to swim. I might just have to book myself a Florida escape.

4. MUST EAT:

Allyssa: Frozen yogurt. The weather is finally starting to semi-cooperate, which means I don’t have to freeze to get my froyo fix!

Stacey: Allyssa is spot on! Frozen yogurt for the win. I’m a huge fan of 16 Handles graham cracker frozen yogurt topped with crushed oreos and bananas. Delicious!

5. MUST WEAR:

Allyssa: Ballet flats. After spending all winter wearing boots, I’m just dying to dust off my collection of ballet flats.

Stacey: Running shoes. This girl has gotten herself back to the gym!

Can’t you just feel the sunshine? A return to blogging. Some Spring Musts. It’s going to be a good, good week. Make sure you check out Allyssa’s blog for the other 5 Spring Musts!

Loving the must list and wanting to see prior editions? You’re in luck! Here’s the 2013 Summer Must List, the 2013 Fall Must List and the 2014 Winter Must List. Woo to the hoo! It’s been a full year of musts!

And you? What is your must read, must see movie, must travel to, must eat and must wear? I must know!

Until next time!

Stacey

The Sunday Currently, Volume 1

Good Morning! Good Morning!

Running Daydreams // Likes to Smile

I’m here! I hesitate to say “I’m back,” because I’m still trying to figure out new routines with my new job. I switched from working in television to working in social media (loving it)! But… it’s a lot of new. New organization. New industry. New schedule. New commute to work.

I had forgotten how it feels to have so much to adapt to when you begin something new. Even amongst all the excitement, there are often moments of overwhelm. Even with the little, seemingly inconsequential things, like route to work. I’m amazed at how much my happiness changed once I figured out the route that works best for me. I finally settled on taking a bus to the subway to the office. I love that the 20 minutes on the bus (where my smartphone still works) lets me spend 20 minutes checking in with my friends on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and (sometimes) email. I even love that the 10 minute subway ride gives me 10 minutes with my Kindle app. Who knew I would end up liking my commute? It’s the little things.

While I haven’t blogged much, I have been on Twitter a lot. I miss you all, immensely, so if you are on Twitter, tweet me a hello! I’ll tweet back and I’d love to talk to you!

[And those that are bloggers... I miss reading your writing, too! Soon... I'll catch up and you'll wonder why I left you 10 comments in a row.]

Speaking of missing the blogging world, I thought the Sunday Currently was a great way to jump back in with an update. I’ve always loved reading all the blogs that participate.

Here goes my first attempt. This Sunday, I’m Currently….

1) READING:

Books for work! Last night, I finished Content Everywhere. The takeaway is to create excellent information that fits the needs of your brand and your readers, while making it easy for your readers to find and engage with your content.

I thought about blogging a lot while I was reading it. Let me know if you are interested in learning more, I’m thinking about writing a small post with Takeaway Lessons.

2) WRITING:

This blog! I miss writing here.

3) LISTENING:

To Jimmy Fallon and Billy Joel sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” It’s incredible! It makes me wish Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon sang together every night. Goodbye Timberlake, Hello Billy!

4) THINKING:

I got a little bit arrogant at Physical Therapy this week (I mentioned my sports injury here) and was teasing my physical therapist that I wanted him to start me on running when I came for my next appointment. He looked at me and goes, “That is the goal, I just wasn’t going to tell you, because you get nervous and freak out.” First of all, man, does he know me well. Second of all… HALLELUJAH!!

I have a sense that it is still a long road to anything that resembles a one mile run, but, I’m just happy to be daydreaming about running shoes. I want really loud, bright, colorful running shoes.

5) SMELLING:

Coffee! I think it’s time for another cup.

6) WISHNG:

For summer.

7) HOPING:

That all my favorite people show up for the Deep Water Running class I am taking at the gym in about an hour. I haven’t been to the class in over a year, but I’m hoping the regulars still come. I’m not allowed to run on dry land, but running in the pool got the a-ok this week!

I’ve been looking forward to the class ever since I got the green light. #goalgetit

8) WEARING:

Very messy, slept on hair! It’s about to go under the mandatory “swim cap in the pool” in about an hour, anyways.

9) LOVING:

My new sheets! After wanting some new bedding for awhile, West Elm advertised an amazing sale and I scooped up this set in the pool color and this set! Here’s a photo of one set on the bed.

P.S. That photo goes to my instagram. I’m a huge instagram fan. If we aren’t insta-friends, let’s be!

10) WANTING:

Sconces for reading in bed. Next weekend, one of my super handy friends is coming to visit. I’m thinking I should purchase and have them delivered before he arrives. Honey do… I ever love you! I’ll trade you NY Pizza for installing a sconce? Fair trade?! I’ll add in some NY Bagels, too!

11) NEEDING:

More coffee.

12) FEELING:

Happy to be spending time writing a blog.

And tell me! What are you currently doing this Sunday? I want to hear all your day and everything I’ve missed while I’ve been adapting a my new world. Looking forward to catching back up!

Speaking of looking forward to catching up, I haven’t been writing this blog as much lately. But I have been on social. Are we friends on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram? If not, please friend me! I’d love to stay in touch.

Until tomorrow!! I have another post scheduled for tomorrow. Woo to the hoo!

xoxo,
Stacey

Romance is A Bag of Potato Chips

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I keep thinking about what my eight-year-old self used to think was the key to love and romance. Eight-year-old Stacey loved to imagine what it would be like to be a teenager in love. Obviously, every single notion of this I had came from the movies.

My all-time favorite movie is Meatballs. It’s classic Bill Murray. But more than that, it is all about coming of age at summer camp, for which I have professed my love all over this blog (see some proof).

My favorite couple in Meatballs is, and always has been, A.L. (the girl) and Wheels (the boy). They are the “hottest couple from last summer,” but alas, they are broken up at the beginning of the movie. Camp gossip is aflutter about whether or not they will get back together (good thing this was pre-Taylor Swift).

Flash forward to one night when they are hanging out in her cabin. She forgot their third anniversary. But he remembered. He came prepared. He pulls out potato chips from a shopping bag and they have a picnic on her bed. And wait for it… they start dancing in the moonlight pouring into the cabin.   Here’s the clip:

To this day, cartoon hearts pop out of my eyes every single time I watch this scene. When I was eight years old and saw this for the first time, I was convinced that this was the most romantic thing that could have ever happened. All one needed to live happily ever after was a bag of potato chips.

Maybe my eight year self was onto something. Maybe it is the simplest gestures that end up meaning the most.

And when in doubt… bring potato chips! Because if the movies have taught me anything…

And you? What romantic movie scene did your childhood self think was the penultimate gesture of love?

Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day. I hope it comes with Potato Chips (even if you buy them for yourself).

Stacey
