Staying Hydrated This Summer: Drinking More Water and Less Soda

I keep a water bottle on my desk in the hopes that it will inspire me to drink more water and less soda. Some days it works and other days, well… that good old vending machine wins the battle. But I keep fighting the good fight and one day I will be victorious!

Last week, I was walking past a coworker’s desk and she had the prettiest strawberry and mint infused water sitting next to her computer. All I could think was, “I bet that tastes better than soda.” A-ha! I had it! Perhaps fruit infused water will be the key to my drinking more water and less soda!

In the hopes of staying hydrated this summer AND in the hopes of drinking less soda, I created a collection of fruit infused water recipes. Totally worth a try! And oh-so-pretty, too. I think this cooking coward is about to find her way into her kitchen…

  1. I gave up soda two years ago and I haven’t looked back!! I love water and hate drinking my calories, I’d rather have a cookie thank you very much. Lol.

I make calorie free lemonade all the time. Cold water, lemon juice, and liquid stevia. Delish. I also love slicing up cucumbers, it makes me feel like I’m at the spa.

    :)

    • Hi Lauren!

You gave up soda? Color me impressed!! I tried last summer and lasted about 4 months. And then I had a soda at the movies and it was all downhill from there. But I think I’ve found my inspiration again. Your lemonade recipe sounds amazing, too! I’ve never tried stevia- is there a taste to it?

      Congratulations on the soda-free life!!

    • Lauren,

I don’t have the right account to comment on your site, but I just checked out today’s post and wanted to say this: Love this! I have the coral version of this dress and couldn’t figure out what sandals to pair with it! I must say…you did it perfectly! And I think I have something like that at home. Thanks for the tip!

  2. I have been experimenting with lots of different water infusions too! I having been trying hard to break my duet cola addiction. These all look great!

    • Hi Kimmy!

Ooooo!! Which water infusion is your favorite so far? Do you have a must try? I’ve been trying to break my diet soda addiction, too. Or at the very least, to majorly cut down on the quantity.

      • At the moment, my favorite is using carbonated water and adding a little ginger lemongrass cordial. I kinda just add the cordial by eye 😛

        • Carbonation! I should try that! I wonder if that’s part of the reason I prefer soda.

          Thanks for the insight!

Hope you’re having a great evening.

  3. I seriously need to cut down on the soda. Diet coke is my weakness. SO good

    • Hi Emily,

Coffee and diet soda are my vices. I would like to cut down myself — much more on the soda than on the coffee! I’m hoping fruity tasting water is just the kick in the pants that I need!

  4. This is the guide I didn’t know I had been waiting for. Thanks Stacey! I can vouch for the cucumber lemon lime combo but the basil and rosemary are a new touch I can’t wait to try!

    • Hi Eric!!

Definitely let me know if you try it! I’m interested to try the Raspberry, Rose, Vanilla!

  5. This is genius! I’m trying to kick my soda habit, but water just doesn’t do it for me. And juice isn’t much better than soda. But fruit infused water?! Sounds like it could be the answer! And maybe if you pair it with carbonated water, you’d get a great soda alternative! If you give any of these recipes a try, let me know!

  6. We think alike! I have a post scheduled for tomorrow on infused waters as well. I love your collage of photos. I will add your link to my post as well.

  7. I’m not much of a pop person.
    Yeah, I said POP!
Not a pop person but my vice is coffee. I think to myself “it’s kinda water” but I know I fail. I think any little fresh flavoring that you toss in to water is a good idea. Just messes with your tongue and head enough to make you forget it’s regular water.

I have to say, all those pictures I am imaging as July afternoon adult beverages…

    • Hi Marc,

You say tomato, I say to-mah-to!

I don’t even count coffee in the water category! Some vices aren’t worth giving up! Soda is worth giving up, coffee… I mean good luck to anyone who tries to convince me of that! :)

      Stacey
