2013 Summer Must List

Long before I ever had a blog, I was enamored with Emily’s Summer To Do List. I used to make my own and check off the list as I completed each of my to do’s. This idea inspired me to go to the U.S. Open (tennis, not golf) and try-out a new beach in the Rockaways.

Last week, Alyssa and I were chatting about how inspiring we find this list and we decided to create a list of our own. Our 10 Summer Musts!

2013 Summer Musts // with Likes to Smile & The Barn

Five musts are published here and the other five musts are published on her blog.

Without further ado, here are 5 of our 10 Summer Musts!

1. MUST READ:

Allyssa: Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham. I’ve heard so many good things about it, plus it’s by Lauren Graham, which is an automatic win in my book.

Stacey: Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger! The first book (The Devil Wears Prada) was so much fun and now we get to read the sequel, while picturing Meryl Streep as the devil! I’m so in.

2. MUST-SEE MOVIE:

Allyssa: The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I don’t even know much about the movie, but it’s bound to be hilarious with those two.

Stacey: Call me a copycat, but I also pick The Heat. Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy?!?! It’s like one movie won the actress lottery.

3. MUST TRAVEL TO:

Allyssa: The Jersey shore. Heading down the shore for the day is a summertime staple!

Stacey: Long Beach, Long Island. An hour after the train leaves Penn station, you arrive at one of the cleanest, most gorgeous beaches. The perfect day trip!

4. MUST EAT:

Allyssa: Ribs. I don’t care what type, as long as they’re slathered in barbecue sauce. Yum!

Stacey: Lobster Rolls! The lobster roll at Ed’s Lobster Bar is my favorite. Delicious!

5. MUST WEAR:

Allyssa: Maxi dresses. I love how they make you look put together, but they’re super easy.

Stacey: Sandals! I think I’ve worn this pair of Enzo Angiolini sandals almost every single day. Je t’aime!

Don’t forget to check out Allyssa’s blog for the other 5 summer must’s! There are 10 altogether! And while you are there, read this post and this post. She’s amazing, right?! And she made the gorgeous image for this blog post. Her design skills are stellar.

And you? Obviously, I want to hear your 5 summer musts, too!!

Until next time!

xoxo,
Stacey

Postscript 1: Because picking the same movie makes me feel a little too much like a copycat, I saw a trailer for “The Way, Way Back” this past weekend and I think it has major potential. Must see movie #2!

Postscript 2: As much as I find lists inspiring (nerd alert!), the thing I’ve been finding most inspiring lately has been all the creative friends I’ve met through blogging (Hi, Allyssa!). So I’m sneaking in one last must to my list: Must continue to make new friends (but obviously, keep the old). Ah-mazing!

  1. Aww I hope to make it out to a Long Island beach this summer even though I’ll be busy discovering CT beaches as well! Great list!

    • Hi Chelle,

Ooo! I would love to hear about the Conneticut beaches you discover!! I’m really eager to see Long Beach this summer after Hurricane Sandy. Apparently they got hit very hard, but did an immense amount of work to have improvements done in time for tourist season. I want to get out and make sure I support their efforts! I hope you have an amazing summer!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  2. Stacey, you are too amazing! I loved your answers and your commentary! And aren’t blog friends the best?! Thanks for coming up with this idea! I can’t wait to do it again in the fall :)

  3. okay, that settles it – I’m going out to dinner with both of you! surf and turf :)

  4. Stacey Beth! I was browsing through your Twitter post and found yours about making a to-do list (via Cupcakes and Cashmere, of course.) I was inspired, myself, and formed a list yesterday afternoon and decided to post about it, as well. Thanks for introducing me to Alyssa’s blog AND Emily’s. Here’s to a fun summer ahead!

    • Laura Beth! So looking forward to reading your post about this summer!! I love these! I think we all need to be reminded to enjoy it or it will be over all too soon! And I love finding new blogs through blogging, so it was my pleasure to introduce you! Here’s to a fun summer indeed!!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  5. Oh, super fun list!! Now must go read the other 5 😀 What a great way to collaborate!

  6. What a fun idea. I love lists too so I guess I’m a nerd as well :) Must read: And the Mountains Echoed, Must see movie: Lone Ranger (I love Johnny Depp) Must travel to: I’m going to say England because it’a done deal, but I also love a beach I’m going to say must drink instead of eat: a mojito Must wear: flip flops and casual skirts

    • Hi Dawn!

I always think of “nerd” as a term of endearment, but I could see how others would not enjoy it. I’ll have to look up “And the Mountains Echoed,” I’ve never heard of it! And I can’t wait to hear all about your trip to England!! What an amazing summer!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  7. Love this fun summer list! Great book recommendations! Thanks!
