Let’s Have A Little Chat

Thus far, my week can be summed up in one picture:

Thriving & Surviving on Coffee // Likes to Smile

I’m working on a very invigorating project at work; the kind where hours quickly pass and you look at the clock wondering how on earth it is already 9 o’clock in the evening. Due to the hours, I’ve been thriving and surviving on coffee.

Because I’ve been at the office so much this week, I didn’t have time to write the blog I was intending for today (there’s always next week!). Instead, I thought it might be fun if we had a little coffee talk. Here are five questions for you so we can get to know each other better. I’ll share below and I would love it if you would share in the comments.

1. Do you drink coffee (and if so, how do you take it?)?
2. What song — when you hear it — makes you instantaneously think of summer?
3. Pool, beach or lake?
4. Where are you spending Fourth of July weekend?
5. What are you most looking forward to doing over the long weekend?

Here are my answers:

1. Clearly! As to how I take it: if I’ve been lazy about working out, I take it with skim milk and Splenda. If I’ve been good about working out, I take it with 2% milk and sugar.

2. “Closer to Fine” by Indigo Girls always makes me picture all my sleepaway camp friends and I dancing around the cabin while singing this at the top of our lungs. Their cover of “Romeo and Juliet” comes in at a close second for the very same reason.

3. All of the above! In order of preference: the lake (hello, camp!) always wins, followed by the beach, followed by the pool. Preferring the beach to the pool is new and completely the effect of living in NYC! After many day trips to Long Beach, my friends got me hooked on the beach! And I love them for it!

4. In the Hamptons. Let’s hope I beat the traffic on my way out East! I’m leaving Thursday morning, so I should get lucky. Fingers crossed! Keep them crossed in hoping that my Mom wants to take me directly from the Luxury Liner to the Sag Harbor Variety Store, so I can get some craft supplies for a DIY I want to do for the blog! Hi, Mom (she reads it at 7:00am each morning it’s published)!

5. Grabbing an iced coffee (it’s my vice!) and enjoying Main Beach in East Hampton. I doubt it will be as empty as when I snapped this picture over Mother’s Day weekend, but I’m looking forward to enjoying the wind in my hair and the smell of the ocean.

Main Beach, East Hampton // Likes to Smile

And you? I would love to chat with you! I have really missed talking to you more frequently on Facebook, Twitter and your blogs. Which makes me very excited for the long weekend and the chance to catch-up and read your blogs.

Here are those questions again, so you don’t have to scroll through the post while you comment:
1. Do you drink coffee (and if so, how do you take it?)?
2. What song — when you hear it — makes you instantaneously think of summer?
3. Pool, beach or lake?
4. Where are you spending 4th of July weekend?
5. What are you most looking forward to doing over the long weekend?

Until Friday!

xoxo,
Stacey

Comments

  1. Hi Stacey! Have a fabulous weekend! I drink Dunkin Donuts coffee and use agave as my sweetner and Interntional Foods Italian Sweet Cream. I also love Starbucks Iced Caramel Macchiato. As far as songs go there are lots of them. I would have to say the Beach Boys always make me think of summer even though I haven’t heard a Beach Boys song in quite awhile. My parents listen to a lot of 50’s and 60’s music. I’m a beach person, but unfortunately I live very far from one. I’m spending part of the 4th at our farmhouse where my kids can let off fireworks. The rest of the weekend will be spent in England which isn’t very patriotic, but I’m very excited!

    • Hi Dawn!

Can you believe I’ve never had an Iced Caramel Macchiato?! I’ll have to try one! Have a great trip to England! I can’t wait to hear about it when you get back!

      Happy 4th!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  2. I’m usually a tea drinker in the morning, but in the summer I switch over to cold brew iced coffee with lots of milk and sugar! When I’m near a Starbucks I will go straight for an iced Caramel Macchiato though :) We’ll be cooking out this weekend and watching lots of fireworks while the kids have a backyard campout. I grew up on the beach so that will always be number one for me, but I’m learning to embrace the pool now that we live in the middle of the country!

    • Hi Moira,

I’ll definitely have to try an Iced Caramel Macchiato, those seem to be very popular! Oooo, I used to love backyard campouts, it sounds so special! I hope you and your kids have a blast! I’m the reverse, I grew up in Ohio with pools and now I’m on the East Coast! Geography dictates so much :)

Hope you had a great cookout for the 4th!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  3. Fun post!
    1. I looooove coffee. Like love, really, really love. I try and limit it to 2 cups or so a day, but sometimes after dinner I just want a cup of coffee so bad. If it’s just regular coffee from home I make it in a french press and have it with cream. If it’s a Starbucks coffee then it’s a soy no foam latte. mmmm….
    2. I honestly can’t think of one right now. My current fave is Mariah Carey’s Beautiful. I am slightly embarrassed that I love Mariah (again), but I do love her new song and it feels pretty summery to me.
    3. Beach, all the way. But, I don’t really like getting in. Just the sand and a chair please.
    4. We had our holiday in Canada on Monday, so I am at work the rest of this week!
    5. Although this weekend isn’t a long one for us, we are doing the Colour Me Rad run on Saturday morning and then Fin’s 2nd birthday on Sunday…so it’s going to be a busy one!

Have a nice long weekend and a fun time away!

    • Hi Kelly,

I’m with you on the coffee!! So much so! You’ll have to let me know how Colo(u)r Me Rad is! I’ve always (always, always) wanted to do one! Good luck!

Hope you have a great end to the week!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  4. 1. Sometimes? I rarely drink coffee – a couple times a month? – but when I do, I prefer cream and a tiny bit sugar. I prefer lattes, but you can’t beat the free stuff when you need an afternoon perk-up!
    2. Right now it’s Get Lucky by Daft Punk/Pharrell.
    3. BEACH! Then pool, then lake. Most often I settle for the pool.
    4. At home. The dude’s gone and my anniversary is on Saturday… so I decided to throw a girl’s only cocktail party. Wootie woot!
    5. A nectarine and sparkling wine cocktail concoction that I’ve been dreaming up. :)

    Have a great holiday weekend!

    • Hi Emily!

A girl’s only cocktail party sounds like a dream! Will you be sharing the recipe on your blog? Hope you have an amazing 4th! And… Happy Anniversary!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  5. 1. Iced or hot, black, with a couple drops of stevia and a little bit of almond milk!
    2. In the Summertime by Jerry Mungo
    3. Lake, Pool, Beach in that order.
    4. In Chicago! Celebrating my 3 year anniversary with A and BBQing with friends! I love staying in the city this weekend!
    5. Our best friends are getting married on Saturday!!

    • Hi Eileen,

Yes! Another person who puts the lake at #1!!

Happy, happy, happy anniversary! And congratulations to your best friends! Sounds like you have an incredible weekend lined up!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  6. oooh, fun!

    1. Light and extra sweet. The less coffee taste, the better!
    2. Wild at Heart by Gloriana. For some reason it’s the perfect summer song.
    3. Beach! Although lake would be a close second!
    4. At home, doing nothing. It’s going to be glorious. Although I have to admit, I wish I was headed down the shore.
    5. I’m most excited to do absolutely nothing! I plan on reading, writing some blog posts, and doing anything else my heart desires :)

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Hi Allyssa,

Can you believe I’ve never heard Wild at Heart?! I’ll have to download that. Isn’t a weekend of doing nothing sometimes the greatest thing in the world? I spent the day reading magazines by the pool (I’m now covered in newsprint… I don’t know what it is about my sunscreen-covered skin, but magazine covers always seem to transfer over to me) and it was just heavenly!

Hoping you’re having a wonderful weekend of doing what your heart desires!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  7. Hi Stacey!
    1. I love cappuccinos and lattes with raw sugar or agave!!
    2.Summer Nights by Grease. I know..Super Retro!
    3.Beach and Pool!
    4. Here in the city.
    5. Spending time with the family!

    Enjoy your weekend! xo Adri

    • Hi Adri!

Summer nights by Grease!! Amazing!! Hope you’re having a wonderful 4th in the city with family!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  8. 1. Yes, I love cappuccino or machiato’s :-)
    2. At the moment it’s Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams with Get Lucky
    3. Beach for sure!
    4. In Chiang Mai, Thailand. Sunday we will take the train to Bangkok.
    5. Hmm, this is hard to answer for me as weekends are the same as weekdays for me while we travel but if I would be at home and I had a long weekend in the summer I would look forward to going out to the beach, to family, hang out with friends, sleep in, have great breakfast with my boyfriend and just relax!

Enjoy your weekend!! This is a great way to get to know your readers. Really fun!! Xx Claudia

    • Hi Claudia!

Great to hear from you! How are the travels? How is Thailand?! I’ve always wanted to visit. I love following your travels on Instagram, it always, always, always makes me so happy to “be with you” and see what you’re seeing! Keep traveling safely!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

      • Hi! I saw you already finished your book… WOW! Amazing :-) And the weekend just started! How’s your long weekend? Thailand is great but also very very touristic.. We are not used to that after poor Laos and Cambodja 😉 I’ll try to use Instagram a bit more..! Enjoy your weekend!! xx

        • Hi Claudia!!! I’m so excited you are reading, too! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the book! The long weekend has been great so far. The weather is perfect, so I’m just really loving the chance to sit still and read :)

Oh, I can only imagine what a transition it must be to be in Thailand after Laos and Cambodia! Oh my! How long are you traveling for? I know I knew at one point, but the answer is escaping me right now! I love hearing about your adventures!

          xoxo,
          Stacey

          • Yeah I saw your pictures on the beach!! So lovely! Which beach is that? :-) For now we decided to stay on traveling till may 2014 because our best friends are getting married in the Netherlands and we don’t want to miss that :-) But not sure what we will do after that. Maybe stay home for a few weeks and then go to America, Canada and South America :-) Let’s see if we still like traveling by then 😉

          • Hi Claudia,

It was Main Beach in East Hampton, New York. It’s out on the tip of Long Island, so it jets out into the water (Atlantic Ocean). Stunningly gorgeous! Of course you are going home for your best friend’s wedding! That’s definitely one you gotta be at!

Hope Thailand is treating you well!

            xoxo,
            Stacey

  9. Hi Stacey!
First of all I wish you a very happy 4th of July and I wish you a spectacular and a with sun and fun packed long weekend!! Enjoy it!
    1. As much as I love talking, I never drink coffee. I once tried an Italian espresso with loads of sugar and I still don’t like the taste of it. :-)
    2. They’re three songs that instantly remind me of summer: Boys of Summer by Don Henley, Shed My Skin by D*Note and currently I’m obsessed with the Get Lucky song like Claudia mentioned here. 😉
    3. Totally going for the beach! We don’t have lakes (or maybe some small ones?), but I used to spend my summertimes as a child by the river in the South of Belgium. That was nice too. But the beach is my favorite place to be during summer! If there aren’t any, I’d prefer a beautiful pool OR a lake/river.
    4. We’re not celebrating along but we’ll stay at home and (think of you guys!!) have a BBQ instead because the weather will be great & hot so we’ll enjoy the sun in our garden. :-)
    5. This weekend is not a long weekend for us, but next week and in August we’ll have two long ones, so I’m looking forward to do some sales shopping, maybe hit the beach (if the weather allows it) and have a few cocktails at home with a good BBQ. :-) And my ideal long weekend would be: sleep late in the mornings, go for a brunch somewhere, go somewhere nice to a place I’ve never been to and maybe shop around, have a few cocktails, dinner somewhere romantic and go late to bed (and arrange a babysit for Jules). And the next morning I wouldn’t get out of bed until 11 o’clock in the morning. Preferably. And hit repeat. LOL! 😉

Love this little coffee talk, it’s nice to get to know you and others better! I still have to mail you with more thoughts, but I’ve been so busy after our vacay that I haven’t had the chance to mail, let alone comment on your blog and others’. Promise to get back to you asap!!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the festivities!
    Hug, Inge x

    • Hi Inge!

Welcome back from vacation!! So nice to find a comment from you! And no worries on the email, I know how hectic it is to come back from vacation. Get to it when you can :)

So interesting that Belgium doesn’t really have any lakes! It never dawned on me that people could swim in a river, because I’ve never lived anywhere where people do that. But that makes total sense. How fun?!!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your BBQ!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

  10. haha, replying at your message is not possible anymore. We’ve been replying too much 😉 But the beach looks gorgeous. Thanks for the name of that. I hope I will visit it one day. New York has everything right? Beach, city, park, bars, restaurant.. AARGHHH! Jealous 😉 Xx

    • HAHA! I didn’t even know that could happen!! Meanwhile… I agree.. NYC has everything!! Let me know when you make a trip, we’ll have to have a meal and explore together! xoxo :)

  11. Belated responses, but I can’t help myself! I scrolled over your book club entries because I’ve not read either.

    1. On the regular, I do not drink coffee. I have an oddly enormous amount of energy. Both morning person and night owl, and somehow a day tripper who cannot nap. I’ve tried. It just doesn’t happen. It was in Italy where I fell for espresso. I take mine straight and in a small cup!
    2. I’m going to add to my former list by including the song ‘Up All Night’ by the Counting Crows and the band Barenaked Ladies.
    3. A lake with a beach? :) Salty beach > lake
    4. I spent mine at the house of a friend whose yard backs up to a firework releasing spot. Twas a great show!
    5. Alright, I’ll alter this for the upcoming weekend, which is long for me because I leave for Boston early tomorrow morning! I am most looking forward to crossing paths with one of my dearest friends from college.

    • Hi Laura Beth!!

I love it! Comment away, always!! And if you end up reading either book for book club, feel free to come back and comment on those, as well!

      1. I’ve never had an espresso! Weird, huh? I should try one :)
      2. Counting Crows and Barenaked Ladies?! LOVE IT! Those are also two favorites of mine!
      3. Love me a lake with a beach!
      4. What an amazing firework viewing shot. I shared a photo of my “perch” on instagram — I watched the fireworks from bed on TV. Oddly fun! :)
      5. A weekend with one of your best friends from college? Oh my! I love it!

Wishing you an amazing weekend trip in Boston with your dearest college friend. I’m sure you will enjoy every minute!

      xoxo,
      Stacey
