Smiling Over Book Club Selection #4

Hands down, the thing that has made me smile the most in 2013 is Likes to Smile Book Club. That people read along and come back to discuss?! Oh. Em. Gee! Giddy with joy does not even begin to describe it. It warms my heart so much, it is basically on fire. En fuego. Thank You For Reading.

So far we’ve read: (1) Revenge Wears Prada (2) Someday, Someday Maybe and (3) Reconstructing Amelia.

Seeing as how I love Likes to Smile Book Club, I’m sure you can see why today’s Smile List is basically my favorite one to date. Today, I’m smiling about our next book club book!

Likes to Smile Book Club Selection #4

Our next book is You Knew Me When by Emily Liebert.

Here’s the book description:

Katherine Hill left her small New England hometown in pursuit of a dream. Now, twelve years later, she’s a high-powered cosmetics executive in Manhattan and a much glossier version of her former self, unrecognizable to her family and old friends. Not that she would know—she hasn’t been home in over a decade.

Laney Marten always swore she’d never get “stuck” in Manchester, Vermont. No, she was destined to live out her glamorous big-city dreams. Instead, she wound up a young wife and mother. That was when her best friend ran out.

When Katherine receives word of an inheritance from former neighbor Luella Hancock, she reluctantly returns home to the people and places she left behind. Hoping for a second chance, she’s met by an unforgiving Laney, her former best friend. And there’s someone else who’s moved on without her—someone she once loved.

Tethered to their shared inheritance of Luella’s sprawling Victorian mansion, Katherine and Laney are forced to address their long-standing grudges. Through this, they come to understand that while life has taken them in different directions, ultimately the bonds of friendship and sisterhood still bind them together. But are some wounds too old and deep to mend?

As an Akron, Ohio girl who moved to New York City after college, I have pondered this topic again and again. I did what you do when you’re captivated by a book’s plot, I downloaded the free sample to my Kindle and dove in. The first chapter was a page turner. I can’t wait to read the rest!

Come join us to discuss on Wednesday, November 6th. I’ll pose (and answer) discussion questions in the blog post, you can leave your answers in the comments and we will discuss from there. It’s so fun!

But wait… it gets better! The author, Emily Liebert, agreed to let me interview her about the book in a post to be published after our discussion on November 6th. We had the loveliest email exchange. She even signs her emails “xo.” You know I can get behind any gal who does that! (xoxo and thank you to you, Emily!)

Holy Book Club Batman! I’m so excited. Come join in the fun. Read along. Discuss. And let me know if you think of any questions I should ask Emily in our interview.

Speaking of my love of books… I’m over on Twin Stripes today with my Fall Reading Wish List. Go check it out!

Until next time!

xoxo,
Stacey

Psst: While you’re checking out my Fall Reading Wish List on Twin Stripes, also check out their posts on apps they’re loving, instagrammers to follow and their fall wish list (I want every item)!
