2014 Summer Must List

Hi Friends! Hello! Hi, Again!

I’ve missed you and the blogging community so much! When Allyssa emailed to remind me that it was time to write our Summer Must List, I jumped for joy. Literally.

This is our fifth installment of our must list. We’ve gone full circle. I can’t decide whether to sing the Lion King or Circle of Life. Or some other circle song?!

But know this… I’m ecstatic that the seasons have finally circled back to summer. The longer, sunshine filled days make me want to create lots of memories. I have a whole list of must do’s — five of which are listed below and five of which are on Allyssa’s blog. Make sure to check them all out.

Summer Must List

1. MUST READ:

Allyssa: #Girlboss is definitely up there on my list of summer reads. I love reading about the stories behind people’s success, so this one should make for an interesting read!

Stacey: Thrive. I’m eager to find a way to better command my time (and get back to blogging!).

2. MUST SEE MOVIE:

Allyssa: Tammy. Melissa McCarthy has been a favorite of mine since Gilmore Girls.

Stacey: Begin Again. Keira Knightley, Adam Levine and Mark Ruffalo star in this romance. My love of romances aside…oh my goodness…that cast! Yes, please.

3. MUST TRAVEL TO:

Allyssa: The shore! It’s not summer in New Jersey without a trip to the shore.

Stacey: East Hampton for the 4th of July. I’m looking forward to my morning coffee on the beach, books on my Kindle and teaching my 3 year old niece to play t-ball!

4. MUST EAT:

Allyssa: My all time favorite summer food is ribs. The more barbecue sauce, the better!

Stacey: S’mores! It’s not summer without one (or two or three)!

5. MUST WEAR:

Allyssa: Dresses are usually my go to in the summer. I love that I can be comfy, yet look put together. It feels like cheating!

Stacey: Sunscreen! After all, I plan on being outside A LOT!

And you? What is your must read, must see movie, must travel to, must eat and must wear? My inquiring mind wants to know.

Don’t forget to head over and check out the other five on The Barn.

Until next time!

xoxo,
Stacey

Postscript — Past editions include: Summer 2013; Fall 2013; Winter 2014; and Spring 2014.

  1. I can’t believe it’s been a year of musts lists! And how did I not know about Begin Again? That’s an awesome cast right there. Enjoy your vacation!

    • I didn’t know about Begin Again either and suddenly it’s been in every magazine I’ve read this week! I also want to see the new Amy Poehler/Paul Rudd movie whose name is escaping me!! Hope you have a great 4th of July! xoxo

  2. Glad you’re back!

As ever, your posts are a treat! Summer is in full effect for me, and the Florida heat makes for some sweaty days. Sunscreen is a daily accessory.
    1. MUST READ: ‘The Brief Wondrous life of Oscar Wao,’ along with Audrey Hepburn biographies and photo collections.
    2. MUST SEE MOVIE: ‘Boyhood.’ Same cast filmed over the course of 12 years? Fascinating.
    3. MUST TRAVEL TO: the local beaches! We have been traveling out of state for over a month, and we get six weeks at home. I am ready to dig my toes into the sand and read by the ocean.
    4. MUST EAT: homemade pizza on the grill.
    5. MUST WEAR: dresses and retro swimwear!

    • Laura Beth!!!!

It is always, always, always so wonderful to find a comment from you! How are you? How’s Florida?

Have you read “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” yet? I check that book out all the time, but haven’t taken the plunge on reading it yet (as in, I scan it in Amazon). I’m fascinated by “Boyhood,” too, and hope to see it soon. I just saw “Begin Again” (it was meh, me thinks).

Grilled pizza? I’m not sure I’ve ever had it, but I’m intrigued!!!

I hope the local beaches are turning out to be amazing!!

      Talk soon!

      xoxo,
      Stacey

Stacey, hi! I just finished Oscar yesterday, and I think you should add it to your to-read list. It took some getting used to because Junot Diaz has an uncommon voice. It reminded me of reading Faulkner without repeatedly wondering “where on earth is this going?” Unless I’m the only one who thinks that while reading Faulkner.

Thanks for the input on Begin Again. I was smitten with the cast, but it sounds like it could wait until it’s available at the library. The beaches have been especially pleasant. I still can’t get over how clear the water is! I have begun pursuing some volunteer possibilities, and I hope that one at the local children’s hospital takes. The summer heat keeps me inside more than I thought it would. I’ve been making use of the library for books and films.

  4. So glad to have you back, even if it’s only for a short time. Let me know how you like Thrive. I could use some time management techniques! I hope you are enjoying some beach time :)

    • Hi Dawn!! I definitely will let you know how I like Thrive.. I put it on my Kindle, but I keep going more for the “beach reads” and less for the nonfiction. My goal is to read 50 books this year. So far, I’ve read 20. Hope you’re having a great summer still, it was so good to see you when you were in NYC! xoxo, Stacey
