Smiles, Quotes and Links #4

Happy Friday Friends!

Hope everyone had a wonderful week! I had a second great week at work and have a sense that I’m going to be very happy in my new position.

Have you ever thought about where your brain goes when it daydreams? Such an interesting idea, right?! I keep catching myself being all, “A-ha self! Caught you thinking about that now!” Try it. It’s fun.

And now for the Smile List portion of this post… links I swooned over this week:

1) Just treat everybody like it is their birthday.

2) I’m debating putting this bench at the bottom of my bed.  Love at first sight.

3) Is anyone making brownie burgers for a superbowl party this weekend?

4) Feel good, look good.

5) I want to try my hand at this stamp embossed pillow, but I would make a tent stamp much like this one I made.

6) Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark. You had me at HELLO!

7) Obsessed with this artwork that Design Lovefest built this colorfest around (and the yellow tray is scrumptious, too)!

8) I’m still trying to figure out what bedding/sheets I want. But I fell in love with the mix of all white textures on this bed. Gorgeous!

9) Wednesday night I tweeted that I was desperate to find this happiness print and Allyssa tweeted back the source. She dug for it. That’s a good friend. Thank you so much, Allyssa!

10) Know what I’m looking forward to on Monday?! Who guessed it? Claim your guesses in the comments. If you guessed Book Club, you’re right! Join in. You can read it in one weekend, I read it in one day in Mexico. Do it. You’ll love it. Then come back on Monday to discuss.

And you? What are you smiling over this week?

Until next time!

Stacey

If You Want To Read In Bed…

I’m still in the midst of my “If You Buy A New Bed” saga. I bought myself a new, bigger bed. Which meant I needed new bedding. My new bed is also taller than my old bed, which unfortunately means that my old floor lamp is now too short and doesn’t provide enough light by which to read at night. And this girl loves to read in bed.

I haven’t yet settled on bedding, but my brain enjoyed the opportunity to take a break and peruse some lighting options. In my studio apartment, table and floor space is at a premium, so I’m looking for a plug-in sconce to go right on the wall. The best part… most of these can be angled and adjusted to provide light right where I want it. Book-errific!

You can see it coming now can’t you… Next, this mouse is going to need money to spend on Kindle books…

I’m imagining that I will purchase two sconces, one for each side of the bed. Here are my favorite options (thus far):

(Option 1 Grey & White, Option 2, Option 3, Option 4, Option 5)

My next step will be to scour for bedding and pillows.  I’ll put together a mood board (or possibly two) of some options I’m loving.  Then, decision time!

And you? Which one do you think will look best with my grey walls and white bedding (with maybe bright pillows)? Do you also like to read in bed?

Until next time!

Oh, Oh, Mexico

When James Taylor sings about Mexico he says, “It sounds so simple, I’d just got to go. The sun’s so hot, I forgot to go home.”  He’s right. If only I forgot to go home!

I started a new job this month. Just before I started, I wanted to take a trip, enjoy some sunshine and read a lot on my Kindle. In fact, I read 5 books in 6 days. It’s amazing how much reading you can enjoy when your only plan for the day is to sit on a lounge chair and read.

I had been to Cancun before and was less interested in exploring the town. My whole goal was to be at a gorgeous resort and enjoy a lounge chair.

And did this resort ever deliver! I was thrilled. I found a great deal on Orbitz for Moon Palace resort in Cancun. I loved it and couldn’t recommend it more highly. In fact, I’m certain I’ll go back at some point in the future (counting down the days as I write this). *NOTE: I paid for the trip entirely myself and was given no perks.

Take a look:

There’s the beach! And just to the left of the grass is three pools. I could easily switch between the ocean and the pools throughout the day.

We’ll call the above the obligatory “ahhhhhhhhh” picture!

If you look closely, you can see the ocean water just beyond the pool.

The chairs in the pool were heavenly! It was super refreshing to get a bit cool from the water, but to still be in the sunshine.

I seemed to see the same part of the resort over and over based on the pictures I took. Blue sky, blue water, I was in heaven.

My other favorite part of the trip was the opportunity to practice my Spanish. Every Mexican I met (mostly those working at the resort) were incredibly gracious and happy to make small talk with me in Spanish. It really sparked my desire to improve my Spanish and become more fluent. I want to research both places to take courses/practice in New York and iPhone apps, as well.

Obviously, my idea of a dream vacation is sunshine, swimming, and my Kindle. Thanks for coming along for my iPhone photography tour!

And you? What does your dream vacation look like?

Until next time!

Stacey

Happy Friday Friends!

I started a new job this week and have spent the week getting acclimated. I even woke up insanely early on Tuesday morning with that giddy first day of school feeling. A good friend and I were texting and she said, “the first day of a new job that I don’t have butterflies is the first sign I’m in the wrong place.” So insightful, right?!

Everything in my gut is telling me that I’m in the right place. It was an incredibly inspiring first week.

I have no links to share this week. Just big smiles.

Meanwhile…if you are looking for some weekend reading, Likes to Smile Book Club discussion of Dollface is on for February 3rd. True fact: the post is already written!

And you? I would love to hear: what made you smile this week? Anyone else feeling like they are in the right place? What really great blog posts did I miss this week? Please feel free to leave links in the comments, I would love to read them!

Until next time!

Goodreads

It’s no secret that I love to read. What seems to be an unknowable secret (at least to me) is what took me so long to sign up for Goodreads?!

A social website dedicated to readers?! HELLO! That is the place for me! Between Likes to Smile Book Club and my decision to join Allyssa in her goal of reading 50 books in 2014, obviously I need multiple places to track my progress! Plus, I love to chat about what I’ve read.

If you’re on Goodreads, I need friends! And I would love to friend you right back on the site! Please add me or leave a comment here and I’ll add you.

I’m just learning Goodreads, so if you have tips, I would love them!

Speaking of which, I read 5 (5!!) books in Mexico and have updated both Goodreads (complete with my reviews) and my 50 books in 2014 tracker.

One of those books was Dollface, the next Likes to Smile Book Club Selection up for discussion.  I hope you’ll be joining us for the discussion on February 3rd! I can’t wait to chat it out!

And you? Are you on Goodreads? What have you been reading lately? What Goodreads tips do you have for me?

Hope to see you here and on Goodreads!

Until next time!

xoxo,
Stacey

Postscript: A couple people have asked to hear about my trip to Mexico, so I’ll have that post up for you on Monday! Thanks for your interest! Makes me feel so loved! xoxo
